ReadTheory is a free online reading program that helps learners improve their reading comprehension through engaging, leveled passages and quizzes. The platform adapts to each student’s skill level, providing personalized practice to build vocabulary, critical thinking, and reading skills over time.

North Star Digital Literacy

Northstar Digital Literacy is an online tool that helps individuals assess and build essential computer and technology skills for work, school, and everyday life. Learners can take self-paced assessments and access free learning modules to improve skills in areas like email, internet use, Microsoft Office, and more.

Literacy Minnesota

Literacy Minnesota’s Distance Learning Platforms offer a curated selection of online tools designed to support adult learners in areas such as English language acquisition, digital literacy, GED preparation, and career readiness. These platforms are approved by the Minnesota Department of Education and are tailored to meet diverse learning needs, providing flexible, self-paced options for students across the state.

Reading Skills for Today’s Adults

Reading Skills for Today’s Adults is a free, online resource designed to support adult learners in building reading fluency and comprehension. Developed by Southwest Adult Basic Education (ABE) in Minnesota, this platform offers a collection of leveled reading materials on topics relevant to adults, such as employment, health, civics, and daily life.

Each reading selection includes:

  • Pre-reading questions
  • Vocabulary support
  • Audio narration at multiple speeds
  • Comprehension questions
  • Writing prompts

These features are designed to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. The platform is accessible on computers and mobile devices, making it convenient for both classroom and independent study.

Reading Skills for Healthcare Workers

Reading Skills for Healthcare Workers is a free, online literacy resource developed by Southwest Adult Basic Education (ABE) in Minnesota. Designed to support adult learners pursuing careers in healthcare, this platform offers 175 leveled reading selections focused on healthcare topics. Each selection includes pre-reading questions, vocabulary support, audio recordings at three speeds to aid fluency, and writing prompts to reinforce comprehension. The content is aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and is suitable for learners at reading levels 5.5 to 8.5. This resource is ideal for use in pre-CNA classes, ESL courses, or general career exploration programs.
